A video posted on Twitter is believed to have captured the moment when a man with a shotgun entered the store at about 5:30 p.m. PT Tuesday and opened fire.

The man in the video can be heard shouting “Allahu Akhbar” as he opens fire before turning the gun on himself before taking his own life.

Police were immediately dispatched to the West side Walmart at 22nd St. and El Cajon Blvd. about 5:30 p.m. PT.

The El Cajon police and fire departments quickly responded to the shooting and responded from as soon as they were notified to the scene, KCBS reported.

The first officers on the scene were from the El Cajon department and were there within a half hour, according to KCBS.

El Cajon police Chief John Delgado said the department did not anticipate that the shooter took any hostages, but did not confirm that there was a hostage situation at the time of the shooting.

“We were not expecting him to take any hostages. This is a horrific event,” Delgado said, according to KCBS.

KCBS said that police were not informed of a hostage situation when they came to the scene and only received word of the shooting after they arrived.

The second police officer on the scene, Corporal Jason Martinez, told KCBS that the shooting was “happening in the parking lot and the suspect didn’t have a gun.”
