Letters to the Editor: Why Mayor Eric Garcetti shouldn’t be ambassador to India
We have all been following the ongoing drama in the U.S. Congress. Congress has been doing its best to take action to help the American public. And at the same time, the U.S. Senate has been engaged in a very tough fight to take our country back. Most of us don’t know how tough this battle will be. The Senate will definitely be taking some tough action. We are expecting them to pass an anti-corruption bill that will ban the use of lobbyists to pay for political contributions. We are expecting them to ban the sale of our military aircraft to the Egyptian military. We are expecting them to close Guantanamo. These are all positive things that will make America a better country. I’m afraid, however, that these things are not nearly enough to solve the real problem. The problem we face is the corruption that’s been going on in America for over 150 years. When I first came in office, I promised to get rid of this corruption. Why isn’t that happening? Because we are dealing with some people who are very powerful. They aren’t going to do what is right for the American people. They are going to do what is right for their own self interest. Now we are going to take that fight to the streets. We’re going to put money in the pockets of the American people. We’re going to put pressure on members of Congress to do something about it. And hopefully, we will have done enough so that our country’s future is safe. I just want you to know that I hear you. Most of you have sent me letters in the past. You called me a liar. You said you think I am a liar. For a long time, I was afraid you were true. But as the weeks passed by, something changed. You started to say that you just don’t believe me. But I heard you. I really heard you. And I thought,
