Paris Saint-Germain are in the position they always intended to be: a club in the same league as their principal rivals. They remain favourites to win the Champions League this season and the next. They are the best team in the country and have finished third in the table for the past 11 seasons.
But there’s a problem with the team, and it has been there since Mbappé’s arrival. The French forward is a player who has the ability to play in any role in a team. That’s why Real Madrid made the deal. Yet he hasn’t played as a winger in a La Liga season.
There are two things to be said about that. On the one hand, he has played, and in good form, in every position up to and including the front three. On the other, he is still finding his feet in the sport, and he is still growing into his body. But he is growing so much more with his body that he is now stronger and quicker than all his teammates.
Mbappé is still developing his body
The situation was the same when he first arrived from Barcelona. Now there is only a problem with him, not a problem with the team that he can play in.
Mbappé is not the problem. All the other players have played all the positions there are to play and even some that aren’t usually considered as such. The problem has been that Mbappé does not play that way. His style of play could be described as dynamic. He has all the qualities to be a Real Madrid player.
“Everyone can’t be the same. When I went to Spain, I was asked to play as a wide forward, maybe as a winger. The way I move to get to the ball is very fast. And now
