CLEVELAND — LeBron James was thrown out of the Cavaliers’ Game 1 series win over Toronto after getting ejected for his role in a fight on the floor. It was a disappointing finish to a frustrating night for the Lakers star.
James jawed with the Toronto bench after the final buzzer, saying something in the direction of Raptors coach Dwane Casey’s ear, which prompted Casey to yell “Who?” and an exchange of words. James drew a technical foul, with Stephen Calderon and DeMar DeRozan going after James on the other end of the court.
James and Casey have history. The two once clashed at a dinner in Miami, and Casey didn’t want to take up the whole story on Thursday.
“I don’t know about that,” Casey said. “We have to concentrate on our team.”
Casey doesn’t think he’ll be fined for his part in the scuffle. Cleveland’s tech had no bearing on the outcome of the game, as Kevin Love’s basket with 4.9 seconds left secured a 96-94 win. James finished with 22 points and eight assists and nine rebounds.
Dwyane Wade broke a tie with a jumper with 3.6 seconds left. Kyle Lowry gave Toronto a 97-94 lead by driving the baseline for a layup with 1.5 seconds remaining.
Wade scored 27 points.
Monta Ellis of the Raptors and James Johnson of the Cavaliers traded technical fouls with 10.4 seconds left.
