Letters to the Editor: It isn’t just Fox News. The media never could take their eyes off Donald Trump. It was like they had to take a long look right before them to see where he would land.
What a media failure and how can we explain this? Is there any media, anywhere that takes the time on the ground with people, for them to write or speak to people, at the ground level for them to get the real story.
For example in New York City, we had Mayor Giuliani on the Sunday show Fox News, and he said why didn’t Trump just say he would take on the Wall Street banks, he would get the banks to stop funding terrorism and he would turn them over to the IRS.
And in the press, we have the New York Times and the Washington Post. They have written all of the negative stories about Donald Trump. Who writes negative stories about Donald Trump? Donald Trump.
When Donald Trump was not elected, I thought it was a one-time deal, and that there would be a quiet return to normalcy.
Instead, the media is now covering the same old story. It is one of fear. They are covering what everyone fears most. Fear was the catalyst that got Trump elected. They are afraid that if he is not elected, fear will again return. It was not fear that is driving Trump. It was not fear that is driving Jeb Bush. It was fear. The fear is all of us.
The biggest media failure of our time is that we do not take a long, hard look at the man who is now President of the United States. As the late, great, legendary broadcaster Ted Hinks would say:
“The media is a business, and like all businesses, it’s important to understand the process.”
It is important to understand the process from Donald Trump’s beginning. What is his message to the media? He says the media is his adversary. It is his adversary is what he says. It is the media who is a business and will be driven to destroy him.
At first it was a joke, then a campaign promise to build a wall, then a plan to deport 11 million people. Then Trump says
